After having the Minox ZE5.2 for a few months now to test and compare to other high end hunting optics I wanted to share some of my thoughts and opinions on this optic.
The ZE5.2 is Minox’s new premiere line of hunting optics and are manufactured and assembled in Germany. The model that I have been testings is the 3-15×56 model but is also offered in a 1-5×24, 2-10×50 and 5-25×56. For my hunting purposes 3-15 is the perfect range. 3x is low enough for quick shots closer than 100m and 15x is more than enough for the longer shots. Your requirements may vary but for where I hunt it is perfect and Minox definitely made enough power ranges for all types of hunting.
Reticle
The reticle in the Minox ZE5.2 is a second focal plane German #4. Which in my opinion is a perfect thickness for hunting applications. It isn’t too thin to lose it in trees and background terrain. When you bring the scope up to your face you are not searching for the crosshairs. Which is important for me when hunting in thick brush and I need to make a quick shot. At the same time it is thin enough for a good POA. Shooting groups at 100m was still easily done and I never had an issue seeing the center of the target. The center of the reticle has a very fine illuminated dot and is adjustable from 0-11. Plenty bright enough for daylight use.
Turrets
Turrets on the ZE5.2 are capped with Mil markings under the caps. They have 6 Mils per rotation and are marked well. The .5 Mil is marked with a higher line than the .1 Mil markings and 1 Mil with a higher line than the .5 Mil( see photo). The adjustments are spaced quite far apart and have positive click to them. One of the nicer feeling turrets I have felt on a hunting optic. If you like to adjust for elevation you can run the scope without the caps on and dial elevation and windage. There is no zero stop but with 6 Mils per turn and the arrow for your zero, you shouldn’t have any issues using it as an exposed turret. It feels like Minox designed it this way and gives you that option if you don’t like holding on the sixth and a half branch up for shots past 100m.
Glass
We all know glass is subjective and my eyes may see it different than yours but from my experience this is very nice glass. It’s German so that should speak for itself. Super bright edge to edge. Low level light is good and makes things look brighter through the scope. The 56mm definitely helps with that. The eyebox is large and easy to get into.
The Minox ZE5.2 optics come with a quality neoprene cover, turret allen key, warranty card and cleaning cloth. All Minox optics made in Germany come with a 30 yr warranty. This model retails for around $1875 which is an amazing prize for the value of these scopes!
